Jochen Homann, Bundesnetzagentur President, met with his French counterpart Philippe de Ladoucette, President of the French energy regulator Commission de régulation de l'énergie (CRE).

"We held very constructive talks and agreed to continue to strengthen, on all levels, the effective cooperation that we are fostering", said Homann after the meeting. "In particular, we have a strong consensus with regard to the fast implementation of flow-based market coupling in the Central and Western European region. We agree that flow-based market coupling should begin here as planned in March 2015".

Since early 2014, bilateral meetings between the Presidents of the CRE and the Bundesnetzagentur serve the purpose of achieving a European internal energy market in addition to clarifying specific issues that concern France and Germany. Today, the coupling of electricity markets was one of the points of focus at the meeting. Flow-based market coupling constitutes the European target model for the calculation of transmission capacity at borders.
