The Agency's International Activities

The Bundesnetzagentur is not only itself a member of various European and international organisations (section 140 sentence 2 of the Telecommunications Act), it also acts on behalf of the Federal Ministry of Economics and Technology in numerous European and international organisations and their specialist committees (section 140 sentence 1 of the Telecommunications Act). The International Department (in which the sections responsible for postal regulation are also located) oversees cooperation in the areas of telecommunications, energy, post and railways primarily with other European regulatory authorities and the European Commission, but also with supranational bodies and organisations. This maintains German interests whilst strengthening cooperation within the EU and cohesion in the international community.

Furthermore, the Bundesnetzagentur is a popular point of contact for numerous foreign authorities (regulatory bodies from all sectors and competition authorities) and other government organisations (such as ministries) who arrange study visits of varying lengths. Primarily of interest are the Bundesnetzagentur's specific regulation practices in the individual sectors, along with the common features of regulating various sectors. The Bundesnetzagentur has seen its international profile further heightened, not least as a result of its role as a multi-sector regulator.
