The factsheets describe selected features of the regulatory system for electricity distribution, gas distribution and gas transmission system operators in Germany. In light of a judgment of the Court of Justice of the European Union in 2021, the Bundesnetzagentur launched the "NEST" process in February 2024 with the aim of redesigning the regulatory framework. In December 2025, the Bundesnetzagentur published the corresponding determinations. The regulatory framework for transmission system operators is under consultation in a separate process.
