About the Bundesnetzagentur

The Bundesnetzagentur (Federal Network Agency for Electricity, Gas, Telecommunications, Post and Railway) is a separate higher federal authority within the scope of business of the Federal Ministry of Economics and Energy, and has its headquarters in Bonn. On 13 July 2005, the Regulatory Authority for Telecommunications and Post, which superseded the Federal Ministry of Post and Telecommunications (BMPT) and the Federal Office for Post and Telecommunications (BAPT), was renamed the Bundesnetzagentur. It also acts as the root certification authority under the Electronic Signatures Act

Since 2011, the Bundesnetzagentur has taken on additional duties relating to the Network Development Plan. Where this indicates a need for expansion on the extra-high voltage level, the Bundesnetzagentur ensures accelerated implementation via efficient planning and approval procedures.
