Wi-Fi use now in the 6 GHz frequency band
Jochen Homann: "Doubling the spectrum available"

The Bundesnetzagentur has today published a general frequency assignment for Wi-Fi use in the 6 GHz band.
"We are nearly doubling the spectrum available for Wi-Fi. This will further advance the digital transformation while making other innovations possible,"
said Jochen Homann, Bundesnetzagentur President.
The additional 480 MHz of spectrum makes more capacity available for Wi-Fi applications for consumers and industry, especially in densely populated areas, where existing Wi-Fi frequency bands are sometimes near their full capacity. Furthermore, the use of innovative technologies such as Wi-Fi 6E, which features wider channels, will be enabled.
Private individuals, businesses and other institutions will benefit from the additional Wi-Fi frequencies in the 5.945 GHz - 6.425 GHz frequency band thanks to higher throughput and more stable connections for high bit rate applications such as video-telephony, gaming or streaming.
In unison with the other European countries, the frequencies will be available for all of Europe and thereby creating corresponding economies of scale.
