The Bundesnetzagentur has today published guidelines on the use of blockchain technology.

"The potential and challenges of blockchain technology have been the subject of intense discussion across all economic sectors and in public administration for a number of years," said Jochen Homann, Bundesnetzagentur President. "We have created specific guidance on the question of for whom the technology can actually provide added value."

Anyone interested can use the list of questions in the guidelines to see whether blockchain technology has potential for them. The guidelines also include information on how far it can make sense to combine blockchain with other digital technologies such as artificial intelligence or the Internet of Things.

Blockchain information portal

The guidelines are available for anyone interested on a new information portal set up by the Bundesnetzagentur. The portal provides an overview of blockchain applications in the regulated network sectors, potential uses in public administration, and opportunities and challenges for medium-sized enterprises.

The portal also includes details of various blockchain initiatives and supplementary publications. The portal will be updated on a regular basis to accommodate new issues and developments in the field of blockchain technology.

The guidelines and information portal can be accessed at www.bundesnetzagentur.de/blockchain.
