The Bundesnetzagentur has for the first time published valid data on parcel transit times and parcel delivery speeds within Germany. The data covers the period from July 2021 to June 2022.

"On an annual average, the majority of parcels were delivered no later than on the second working day after posting, which means that the statutory requirements are being met," said Klaus Müller, President of the Bundesnetzagentur. "Parcel delivery speeds in Germany are satisfactory overall, so it is all the more important to promptly resolve the existing problems with letter services delivery quality."

High quality parcel delivery

Nationwide 80% of parcel post was delivered on the first working day after posting. With an annual average above 95% of parcels being delivered on the second working day after posting, the legally required minimum of 80% was surpassed in each of Germany's 10 postal routing zones.

Parcel addressees were overall satisfied with the delivery of their parcels, and less than 5% of them submitted complaints to the delivery service.

Two thirds of parcels delivered to a house address

Nearly two thirds of parcels were handed over to the addressee at a house address and a very small number (4.3%) of parcels were handed over to a post office or parcel shop. While most parcels are still hand-delivered, around one fifth of parcel customers currently make use of options to have parcels redirected on a permanent basis or delivered later.

Spectos GmbH and WIK-Consult GmbH were commissioned by the Bundesnetzagentur to gather and analyse the data. The key findings of the study are available for download at www.bundesnetzagentur.de/post-monitoring.
