The Bundesnetzagentur has today published the results of the onshore wind and innovation auctions that closed for bids on 1 May 2025.

"The onshore wind auction was again very well subscribed, with consequently a further decrease in award prices," said Klaus Müller, President of the Bundesnetzagentur. "The latest innovation auction set a new record: for the first time, the volume of bids exceeded 2 gigawatts. This indicates the continued high level of interest in the market in different forms of renewable generation."

High level of participation in onshore wind auction

The auction was for a volume of 3,443 megawatts (MW). A total of 568 bids with a volume of 4,972 MW were received, of which 372 bids for a combined volume of 3,447 MW were successful. Some 15 bids had to be disqualified from the procedure.

The prices of the successful bids in the pay-as-bid auction ranged from 6.47 cents per kilowatt hour (ct/kWh) to 6.94 ct/kWh. The average volume-weighted award price in this round was again lower and, at 6.83 ct/kWh, was well below the price ceiling of 7.35 ct/kWh.

The federal states with the largest volumes awarded were North Rhine-Westphalia (126 awards with a combined volume of 1,002 MW), Lower Saxony (88 awards, 960 MW) and Hesse (39 awards, 379 MW).

Record oversubscription in innovation auction

In the innovation auctions, bids can only be submitted for combinations of different types of renewable installations or combinations of renewable installations and storage facilities. The volume put up for auction was 486 MW. A total of 158 bids with a volume of 2,020 MW were received, of which 29 bids for a combined volume of 488 MW were successful. All of the bids were for combinations of solar installations and storage facilities. A total of 56 bids were disqualified from the auction.

The prices of the successful bids ranged from 5.00 ct/kWh to 6.39 ct/kWh. The average volume-weighted award price was 6.15 ct/kWh, which is considerably lower than both the price ceiling of 9.00 ct/kWh and the average volume-weighted award price in the previous auction of 7.09 ct/kWh.

The federal states with the largest volumes awarded were Bavaria (12 awards with a combined volume of 137 MW), followed by Saxony-Anhalt (5 awards and 124 MW) and Lower Saxony (2 awards and 49 MW).
