The Bundesnetzagentur has today announced the results of the innovation auction that closed for bids on 1 September 2025. The innovation auction was more than four times oversubscribed.
"The innovation auction was again significantly oversubscribed, with a consistently high level of competition"
, said Klaus Müller, President of the Bundesnetzagentur.
No bids were received in the parallel auction for biomethane installations.
New record oversubscription in innovation auction
In the innovation auctions, bids can only be submitted for combinations of different types of renewable installations or combinations of renewable installations and storage facilities. The volume put up for auction was 486 megawatts (MW). A total of 163 bids with a volume of 2,182 MW were received, of which 33 bids with a combined volume of 490 MW were successful. All of the successful bids were for combinations of solar installations and storage facilities.
The prices of the successful bids ranged from 4.79 cents per kilowatt hour (ct/kWh) to 5.59 ct/kWh. The average volume-weighted award price was 5.31 ct/kWh, which is considerably lower than both the price ceiling of 9.00 ct/kWh and the average volume-weighted award price in the previous auction of 6.15 ct/kWh.
The federal state with the largest volume awarded was Bavaria (11 awards with a combined volume of 122 MW); Schleswig-Holstein and Brandenburg followed, each with two awards and considerably smaller volumes (54 MW and 51 MW respectively).
