New tool for checking minimum supply of telecommunications services

The Bundesnetzagentur is today making available on its website a new tool for the right to be supplied with telecommunications services (RaVT). This map lets the consumer quickly and easily check whether the minimum supply would potentially be available at their address. Currently this is a minimum download speed of 15 megabits per second, a minimum upload speed of 5 mbps and a latency of 150 milliseconds.

The market surveillance tool in brief

The Bundesnetzagentur monitors at regular intervals the availability of a minimum supply of telecommunications services for the whole of Germany. By entering an address in the market surveillance tool and taking into account a fixed line or mobile supply, a customer can check whether a minimum supply of telecommunications services is potentially available there. The tool responds by evaluating a large number of supply data, which are then presented on a map of 100 x 100m grid cells.

The tool helps the consumer to check in less than a minute whether they are potentially underserved. Where there is no minimum supply, the consumer can turn to the Bundesnetzagentur directly via a linked contact form.

This new market surveillance tool will first be made available as a test version and is to be continuously improved with the help of consumer feedback and an expanded database. It will be updated with feedback from consumers at regular intervals.

Right to be supplied with telecommunications services

Everyone has the right under the German Telecommunications Act (TKG) to be supplied with a minimum offer of voice communications and an internet access service for adequate social and economic participation. The Bundesnetzagentur reviews and evaluates the parameters for minimum supply on a regular basis. Consumers without access to a minimum supply can turn to the Bundesnetzagentur.

Further information about the right to a supply of telecommunications services is available on the Bundesnetzagentur’s website at www.bundesnetzagentur.de/rasi. (in German). The market surveillance tool can be accessed at www.bundesnetzagentur.de/1081022. Additional information is available there together with instructions and a list of FAQs www.breitbandmessung.de/messverfahren-ravt.
