Onshore wind auction that ended on 1 August 2026 greatly oversubscribed

The Bundesnetzagentur has today published the results of the auction for onshore wind farms that closed for bids on 1 August 2026.
“Despite a lower total bid volume, this auction, too, was significantly oversubscribed. This is reflected in the continued decline in award values,
” said Klaus Müller, President of the Bundesnetzagentur.
The auction was for a volume of 2,520 megawatts (MW). Of the 461 bids with a volume totalling 5,250 MW, the Bundesnetzagentur was able to award 237 bids with a total volume of 2,523 MW. Some 17 bids had to be excluded from the procedure.
The prices of the successful bids in the pay-as-bid auction ranged from 4.49 cents per kilowatt hour (ct/kWh) to 4.98 ct/kWh. The average volume-weighted award price has declined significantly, from 5.06 ct/kWh in the previous round to 4.79 ct/kWh.
The federal state with the most volume awarded was Lower Saxony (81 awards with a combined volume of 836 MW), followed by North Rhine-Westphalia (42 awards, 430 MW) and Rhineland-Palatinate (17 awards, 336 MW).
