Year of issue 2026
Date of issue 2026.10.20
The Bundesnetzagentur has initiated proceedings against Münch Energie GmbH & Co. KG, which supplies household customers with electricity under the brand “grüüün”.
“We are investigating whether the company wants to cease its activities without having notified us in good time. In times of rising energy prices, it is essential that everyone can rely on the legal requirements for the winding up of energy supply contracts being complied with
,” said Klaus Müller, President of the Bundesnetzagentur.
Investigation into compliance with notification and transparency requirements
The Bundesnetzagentur is looking into suspicions that Münch Energie GmbH & Co. KG has breached the notification requirement about the end of its activities. The authority is also examining whether the customer information that was sent out complies with the particularly stringent information and transparency requirements set out in the German Energy Industry Act (EnWG).
Münch Energie GmbH & Co. KG informed its customers in early October that it would end its national offer for consumers on 31 October 2026. It also published an announcement to this effect on its website. The Bundesnetzagentur has so far not received any notification.
The Bundesnetzagentur must be notified of the end of activities no later than three months before the planned termination date. Energy suppliers must also keep to the contractual arrangements made with customers about the termination of the contract.
The regulatory role of the Bundesnetzagentur in the interests of consumer protection
The Bundesnetzagentur examines on an ongoing basis whether suppliers comply with the requirements of energy law. The Bundesnetzagentur may initiate regulatory steps if it is suspected that energy undertakings are in violation of the EnWG. This takes account in each case of the extent to which there are indications of systematic abuse. The Bundesnetzagentur may prohibit behaviour that is in breach of the law.
The Bundesnetzagentur is in contact with the customers affected, the energy suppliers and consumer organisations.
