The Bundesnetzagentur has today published the results of the auction for solar installations on buildings and noise barriers and biomass plants that both closed for bids on 1 October 2026.

“There has been a clear increase in the volume of bids submitted for roof-mounted solar installations compared with the previous round. The auction volume was more or less covered,” said Klaus Müller, President of the Bundesnetzagentur. “In the biomass auction, however, the volume of bids submitted was once again below the auction volume.”

Significant increase in the volume of bids for roof-mounted solar installations

The auction was for a volume of 296 megawatts (MW), with 177 bids submitted for a total of 347 MW. Compared with the previous round in June 2026 with a bid volume of 238 MW, the volume of the bids submitted was much larger. The Bundesnetzagentur disqualified 34 bids with a volume of 58 MW from the auction. A total of 143 bids with a combined volume of 288 MW were admitted to the auction and accepted.

The prices of the successful bids in the pay-as-bid auction ranged from 8.50 cents per kilowatt hour (ct/kWh) to 10 ct/kWh. The volume-weighted average award price was 9.67 ct/kWh, which was the same level as that in the previous round (9.72 ct/kWh).

The federal state with the most successful bids was North Rhine-Westphalia (66 MW, 38 winning bids), followed by Hesse (30 MW, 11 winning bids), Brandenburg (28 MW, 14 winning bids), Lower Saxony (27 MW, 16 winning bids) and Rhineland-Palatinate (19 MW, 6 winning bids).

Lower volume in biomass plant auctions

The biomass auction was under-subscribed, as in the previous bidding round. In the auction for a volume of 617 MW, a total of 328 bids with a volume of 442 MW were submitted.

Due to the undersubscription, the Bundesnetzagentur had to reduce the auction volume in accordance with statutory requirements. This means that successful bids were limited to 80% of the volume of the admitted bids. Consequently the Bundesnetzagentur awarded 244 bids with a total volume of 319 MW. Some 39 bids had to be excluded from the award procedure.

The prices of the successful bids in the pay-as-bid auction ranged from 13.95 ct/kWh to 19.80 ct/kWh. The volume-weighted average price of the successful bids was 18.75 ct/kWh.

The federal state with the most volume awarded was Lower Saxony (85 MW, 66 winning bids), followed by Bavaria (61 MW, 46 winning bids), Schleswig-Holstein (40 MW, 21 winning bids) and North Rhine-Westphalia (33 MW, 15 winning bids).

Some 24% of the accepted bid volume was granted for new installations and 76% for existing installations that continued to receive funding. In recent bidding rounds the scope of new installations has risen considerably.
